It was a day of deliveries.
A Dickensian day - somewhere between the age of wisdom and the age of foolishness.
First came the paving stones.
Then some serious machinery.
And eventually machinery in action.
Oh be still my beating heart.
We're doing our best to keep this project earth-friendly, but you can't control everything in rural America if you want the tough and rough stuff to be delivered on time.
Those pictures were from early this morning.
These are from late afternoon.
Leveling the gravel and digging the water trenches.
Well, someone had to check it was safe for Tom to use. He could have hurt himself.
Stones. Definitely not the 'Stones' that Evelyn Waugh had in mind in his novel Scoop; but stones, nonetheless.
I couldn't resist.
Last night a storm whipped down the East coast, delayed the Red Sox v Yankees game and did this to one of our trees.
Tomorrow's post will be more of today's photos.
I think.
This country that I love is so peculiar I have no idea what will happen.
Dickens needs to update his American Notes.

Day Two Hundred and Sixty Three
We began to move some of the old files and office paraphernalia into storage this morning.
Who chose Thursday 9 June?
It was 80° with 75% humidity at 6.30am. By mid-morning it was 95° with 85% humidity. It was a linen shirt today, rather than the usual 3 piece Scottish tweed suit.
Our movers Damon, Donna and Steve were simply great (we're doing it all again in two weeks guys!).
And I got to to ride in the coolest truck in America. Truck = kit.
What I can't understand is why Janet, our office manager, could not stop laughing when she saw me in the truck. I thought I looked perfectly at home; must have been the madras red shirt...
I did my bit for the move - I distinctly recall a smudge of dirt on my forearm; I wore it with pride for the entire day. OK, so Donna made me look like the feeble Englishman that I am, but I'm not used to this heat - I'm thinking that perhaps I'll be able to improve my contribution if I wear a pith helmet and carry a fly swish next time.
At the same time a couple of the new filing cabinets were delivered. This is a particularly significant event.
The baseboard was finished.
The mailboxes arrived.
All of the light fixtures were installed. I know nothing about these things, but I'm pretty sure that those are nice angles. Aren't they?
Even I'm getting bored of this.

Day Two Hundred and Sixty Two
It's nice to have a front door.
The first coat of stain and protector was applied today.
And it's nice to have bamboo baseboards.
And spotlights.
And sockets.
And other stuff.
And feet and sunlight.
P.S. Emily just said, "That's not one of your better posts".
It's tough this blogging lark - even when you only have a readership of two.

Day Two Hundred and Sixty One
It's a conceptually factual, possible, probable, potential, upside down light shade.
It could be a counterfactually conditional light shade - it could be.
The English language is wonderfully rich if you want to be evasive.
It's still a light shade - upside down.
